3 Steps to Wildlife Heaven

April 4, 2017 2:05 pm Leave your thoughts

I’ve said it before and I’ll no doubt say it again, gardening for wildlife needn’t be difficult.

There are three fundamental things to consider when gardening with wildlife in mind.

1.  Inviting them in: Invite_Wildlife_DebbieCooke.com

Create an inviting environment by providing:

Access:

Ensure that ground dwelling creatures have easy access in and out of your garden with wildlife friendly boundaries.

Cover:

Providing plenty of places to hide out will make your garden more inviting.

2.  Providing a Banquet:

I believe it is important to provide wildlife with as much of it’s naturally, nutritious food as we can. The more blooms, berries and beasties you can provide the better.

Give them plenty to eat in the form of:

Natural Food:

Flowers, fruits, berries seeds and insects.

Supplementary Food:

Having feeders for birds and other wildlife in your garden is guaranteed to bring them in.

Water:

Don’t forget to offer them a drink to wash it all down with either a pond or bird bath.

3.  A Place to Stay:

If you have places for wildlife to set up home you will be creating a garden that is balanced and bountiful.

Natural Environments:

These include areas of long grass and wild flowers, shrubs and hedges, ground cover, log piles, flat stones and banks with holes.

Man Made Homes:

Purpose built boxes for nesting , roosting or hibernating can be purchased or made quite simply for birds, bugs, mammals and amphibians, in fact, ‘All Creatures Great and Small.’
